Security Guards must be 18 years old, have a clean criminal record, and be legal to work in the United States Arizona Arizona Security Training, a division of Ø All instructors are expertly trained and certified by the NRA and DPS and are currently working in the security or investigation industries. Ø Basic Security Officer 8 hr DPS training certification and Armed Guard 16 hr DPS training certification given at successful course completion. Ø We train both sponsored and non-sponsored candidates and give our students referrals to security companies that have requested to be on our list. We also recruit for companies looking to hire our graduates. Ø We train both sponsored* and non-sponsored candidates. SPONSORED: Our DPS 8 hr training certificate is all that is needed for sponsored candidates. Just turn in the original training certificate to your employer and they will send it into DPS with your licensing packet. NOT SPONSORED: For those candidates that are not sponsored by a security company, we have partnered with Pride Security to SPONSOR our candidates for their DPS security guard card. § PRIDE SECURITY, LLC is your *SPONSOR agency and does not imply, promise, or guarantee to employ you. However, they do encourage you to contact them after you have received your DPS license "Guard Card" to see if employment with them would be a fit. Once you receive your DPS license “Guard Card” you are free to seek employment with any security agency. * to obtain your first guard card your original DPS security guard employee application for license must be signed off and SPONSORED by a licensed Security Agency along with your signed security training verification, finger print card, picture, and $74 money order made out to DPS . After DPS processes your application and you pass the FBI background check you will receive your Arizona Security Guard employee license " Guard Card". Once you have your Arizona guard card you are eligible to work for any security company in Arizona until it is time to renew your guard card. As long as you renew your card prior to it's expiration date, have your training renewal certificate, and pass your background you will be renewed without needing a SPONSOR security agency to sign off.

Student must bring a legal handgun, safety glasses, and 100 rounds of ammunition. The classroom portion is taught in an air conditioned classroom. The range may be indoor or outdoors. Candidates will be told prior to class where they are to train. If a candidate is not familiar with a handgun, they will be required to take NRA basic pistol first. A CCW is for personal protection and does not authorize a candidate to work armed. If you are required to carry on the job you must get the Armed guard certification.
NRA Certifications for:
Basic Pistol: teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely. This course is at least 10-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students learn NRA’s
rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, two handed and one handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, course completion certificate.
Personal Protection inside the home: teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense. This is an eight-hour course. Students should expect to shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition. Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development. The NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course participants must be law abiding, adults (at least 21 years old), and experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm) to maximize what can be learned from this course. Proof of shooting experience can be one of the following: NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment.
